The MiniDisc format has always offered high-quality audio recording
and playback in a portable unit, but bringing together the power of
MiniDisc with the versatility of MP3 digital audio, Sony's new Net MD
technology could redefine the way we listen to music while on the move.
Transfer your music at high speed
 
Sony's new line of Net MD Walkman player/recorders break the speed limit
with a direct USB connection that transfers over five hours of music to
one disc in up to 64x speed on certain models. Net MD technology adds
utility to the world's most popular digital music recorders by providing
up to 64x speed for transferring music files. The new Net MD SonicStage
software application facilitates fast transfer of CD to MD; users simply
launch the application and select the tracks they want to transfer to
the player. Three recording modes give users the choice to record in
standard mode for the richest sound quality or two different long-play
modes for the most effective use of space on a single MD. The bundled
SonicStage software supports secure music downloads and is used to
organise playlists, title tracks and to maximise music mixes.
As with all MD products, Sony's new Net MD players can record from
various sources, accept multiple Internet audio formats such as MP3 and
WMA files, and features flexible editing tools. MiniDisc media is
affordable, durable and rerecordable up to a million times without
degradation. Besides their individual features and stylish good looks,
all the new models offer long battery life, MDLP for recording over five
hours of music on one 80-minute disc and Sony's ultra skip-free
G-Protection technology for active users who enjoy listening to
uninterrupted music. SonicStage software, one blank, 80-minute MiniDisc
media and USB connecting cable are included. Net MD Walkman players are
compatible with Microsoft Windows 98/SE/2000/ME/XP operating
systems.
The Players
The apex of the Net MD Walkman product line, the MZ-N10 packs a host of
features into an ultra compact body weighing about three ounces. This
special 10th anniversary model has a full magnesium body and includes an
embedded lithium-ion battery. Recording is made easier than ever with
64x transfer speed using the long play LP4 mode and a supplied matching
USB cradle with a direct connection to the jukebox. Placing the unit in
the connected cradle also ensures that it automatically recharges. In
addition to a microphone jack, six-band graphic equaliser and acoustic
sound settings, the new model features a backlit LCD editing remote and
a three-line dot matrix display that is capable of illustrating nine
characters per line for easy song searches and edits. Sony's Jog Dial
navigator scrolls through the list vertically to search for songs and
groups. By simply rotating the dial with one finger then pushing it, the
desired point is accessed.
The MZ-N10 also incorporates Sony's skip-free G-Protection
technology, which eliminates or reduces skipping during many active
uses. This Net MD players can record MP3s or CDs at up to 64x speed and
utilises affordable MD media for over five hours of music storage. It
plays back ATRAC3 files and also supports multiple Internet audio
formats such as MP3, WMA and WAV for flexible music transfers. It's an
excellent way to create a truly affordable, portable music library.

SonicStage software
Sony's first range of Net MD players were supplied with OpenMG Jukebox
software. The new range comes with the improved SonicStage software.
Currently version 1.5 is supplied in the box. SonicStage enables fast
and easy music handling on a PC from numerous sources, such as audio CDs
and Internet-based music. CD, MP3, WMA and WAV sound data are converted
to ATRAC3 before transferring to the Net MD via a USB connection at data
speeds of up to 6 mbps. One of the best things about SonicStage is the
ease with which you can edit music and compile a playlist on the PC
before transferring the finished soundtrack to the Net MD. |
